Library Policies & Procedures 2023-2024

Policies:

Students must sign in/keypad ID # at the entrance desk when entering the LMC and present their ID card. New students will be asked for his or her ID, grade, and homeroom. 

Only students with a LIBRARY pass/permit may come from a class to the library.

Administration, faculty, and staff use his or her employee ID for checking out books.

All patrons must adhere to the Laredo Independent School District computer use guidelines.

Books that are lost or stolen must be paid for. If the item is found after payment, a full refund will be given through the bookkeeping department (if within the same school year). No fines are charged for books turned in later than the due date.

Printing is to be used for school papers, projects and information only.

The Copy Machine is to used for school purposes only.

(Flyers, inappropriate pictures and other personal materials are not allowed.) Copies will be limited to students. Students are urged to save all information to a pen drive in order to secure not losing his or her work. There will be a possibility of losing information as weekly clean up will be in progress.

Procedures:

Checking Out Books

  • Books can be checked out for a two week period.

  • Book limit - two (at library staff discretion).

  • Renewal of books is flexible

  • Patrons will be notified of overdue books

  • Holds: Student and School

*Student Hold - If a book/s have not been returned within the allowed time, additional books cannot be checked out.

*School Hold - Accounts must be cleared by the end of the school year. Seniors make sure to clear your accounts before graduation practice.

  • Students are not allowed to check out books for classmates.

Teacher Information:

The J. W. Nixon Library Media Center staff looks forward working closely with teachers to collaborate on ideas, identify information and material needs, and aid in student achievement.

  •  Teachers are asked to schedule their classes for the LMC in advance and scheduling will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Rosters need to be submitted for library documentation.

  • Teachers shall remain with their classes and assist students in observing library rules.

  • Teachers are allowed to send only 5-10 students at a time to the library. (Subject to change and if space is available, adjustments can be made.  Teacher needs to make arrangements for students to be monitored.)

  •  Teachers may place books on reserve.

  •  Any student coming to the library during class time must have a library pass. Passes will be provided by the LMC. If you run out of passes, please contact any library staff member.

  •  Sponsors of extracurricular activities may schedule meetings in the library upon request.
